Uzoigwe is heading into a season looking to build on the last, Uzoigwe appeared at district finals in the first quarter of this year, and as a junior placed 3rd at the conference championships, while receiving awards for being the most improved athlete from sophomore year to junior year. Uzoigwe who also plays basketball for the Knights looking to improve every day and be the best player and athlete possible. Uzoigwe has strong goals for the season looking to be the best 400 runner in the state and win the state championship – Andy sees anything less than that a failure.
During this past off-season Uzoigwe worked hard in his training getting stronger and more explosive, all while working to lower times on his 400 and 800 events and also improving stamina, and his running form hoping to take his game to the highest level possible winning more races.
Looking at the next level Uzoigwe is speaking with multiple schools most notably Notre Dame College in Ohio, as well as Indiana Tech University. Uzoigwe is looking to have a promising college track career and is hoping to run for schools such as The University of Michigan, Ohio State, or Bowling Green to name a few.
Andy says his favorite part competing and training in the sports he does is knowing he is healthier and becoming a better person for himself and knowing he is improving to get to the next level.
Andy says his favorite part of competing and training in the sports he does is because not only is he becoming healthier and a better person, but gaining friendships and relationships that will last a lifetime all while improving in hope to go onto the next level.
Uzoigwe loves competing against other top athletes and enjoys hearing the roar of friends, family, and the crowd as he finishes a race or makes a play on the court.
Outside of sports and school Andy participates in community service helping local churches around the area and with food banks when he can. He enjoys hanging out with friends, seeing movies, and spending lots of time in the weight room!
A bit more about Andy Uzoigwe:
As a Freshman Uzoigwe ran track with the JV team, also played basketball under new coach Travis Lewis who formerly played football and basketball at Eastern Michigan. Andy started at point guard and had a successful season under Coach Lewis. Sophomore year Andy ran varsity track on a team loaded with talent, He also played basketball that year. Junior year Andy was recognized as one of the best 400 runners in the city, while making it to district finals before an injury hindered his performance. Andy has played basketball for the Knights each year of high school, and is looking to start varsity this season!
