We spoke with Eric this past week to see where he stands in the recruiting process and to find out where he and the Rock Canyon football team are looking to go with their upcoming season and summer workouts.
With summer coming up fast Hommel really would like to improve his 40 time as well as build strength and size. Outside of workouts with the team Hommel spends time at Elite Speed Sports Performance in Denver working on speed and strength as well as other parts of the game.
Eric has also join Team Weapon X which has helped him focus on his route running, which he says, has improved tremendously. Team Weapon X is a 7 on 7 travel team that competes in tournaments all around the country. Hommel says playing with this team is a lot of fun and everyone that takes part are guys who truly love football.
So far this offseason Hommel has been training for the camps he plans to attend this summer. Right now he is planning to spend time at Colorado, Wyoming, and Colorado State, but is also considering Kansas, K-State, Montana, and South Dakota. Eric was also invited to attend The Opening Regional’s in Chicago and plans to attend.
Looking towards college ball, Hommel has his expectations set and would like to play for any school that gives him a chance to play. As of right now Hommel is seeing interest from Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado and is hoping to attend Montana’s Junior Day in April.
I asked Hommel if he has been enjoying the recruiting process and what his thoughts were on the process itself. “I have learned that good numbers on paper will get you attention from schools early, but the best way to show a school your level of play is to go to their camp and try and stand out there. It can be stressful at times because there's a lot riding on what happens in the recruiting process, but it's also fun to see when a school is interested in you.”
